Unbound akzeptiert Bitcoin

Unbound akzeptiert Bitcoin

Wo? Bei Unbound, einer britischen Plattform für e-Books unabhängiger Autoren. Auslöser war das aktuelle Crowdfunding für Dominic Frisbys “Bitcoin – The Future of Money”. Der populäre britische Comedian erntet viel Lob: “Dominic Frisby has gone and done something extraordinary: written a page-turner on the economy,’ James Harding, BBC Director of News and Current Affairs. A brilliant book – it will do more…

Hello Ruby

Hello Ruby

UC CrowdFunding effort brings in $1.3 million — and some fun

UC CrowdFunding effort brings in $1.3 million — and some fun

By Larry Gordon An unusual effort by the UC system to raise scholarship money through online crowd-funding tactics — including promises by faculty and students to lead hikes, wash cars and wear kooky costumes — has garnered $1.3 million, officials said Wednesday. The formal part of the six-week Promise for Education campaign ended Oct. 31, and about 4,000 people donated to it via social media. “We are really pleased. In addition to the amount of money raised, just seeing the visibility for scholarships was important,” said Jason Simon, UC’s executive director of marketing communications. When it…

Harvard Business Review on CrowdFunding

Harvard Business Review on CrowdFunding

Crowdfunding’s Big-Bang Moment by Larry Downes October 28, The crowdfunding service Kickstarter reached an important milestone last week. The company’s website reported that Kickstarter has now funded over 50,000 projects, with pledges coming from over 5,000,000 individual backers. Since its founding in 2009, Kickstarter has helped fledgling projects raise nearly $1 billion in donations. But those impressive numbers may be eclipsed by a revolution in venture financing that is only being held back by final government approval: start-ups raising actual investment funds from individuals in exchange for equity or a share of profits. Last week, the…

Subscriptions may be the way of the crowdfunding future

Subscriptions may be the way of the crowdfunding future

BY CARMEL DEAMICIS , Crowdfunding is growing up. It’s been three and a half years since Kickstarter kickstarted the trend (see what I did there?). The first wave of newborn platforms — Indiegogo, and the like — were all about one-time donations. Now, just like the awkward teenager maturing through puberty, new forms of fundraising from the masses are taking shape. The next wave of crowdfunding platforms is about ongoing donations. Platforms will let people make small payments on a reoccurring basis to a philanthropy, an artist, or another organization. I’ve been waiting to call it. I came across…

Crowdfunding and Innovation Management

Crowdfunding and Innovation Management

By Owen Ray,  We all know the importance of continuous innovation, and around here we’ve been talking a lot about harnessing the power of the crowd to keep the idea machine running. Crowdsourcing is a great way to generate new ideas and solve tough problems, but it’s only a part of your innovation management process. With all of these ideas and solutions pouring in from the crowd, you’re eventually going to need to pony up some cash to execute on them. Again, involving the crowd to secure funding can not only nab some dough, but it can…
