Paul Schomer

Paul Schomer. I was born and raised in the Washington, DC, metro area and I’ve been a rock music junkie and musician for much of my rather lengthy life. I wrote a few music stories for Reuters in the early 1990s, produced a independent new music television show in DC in the mid-1990s and then did a brief spell as a segment producer for VH-1. I hosted a weekly songwriters showcase in DC during the late 1990s.

From 2000 to the end of 2004 (drum roll, please) I worked at National Public Radio as a senior online producer for music programming, launching NPRJazz.org and producing the first six episodes of All Songs Considered. I also wrangled the network’s web content related to jazz, classical, Celtic, and holiday music.

I’m now living in Austin, Texas, clutching my five vintage electric guitars. Aaaaand…

Each week, I troll through the music project minefields on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and other crowdfunding platforms (or CFPs) in a valiant attempt to rescue and raise up the very best of in-process campaigns: raw music, music that in the end I hope you find worthy of listening to and perhaps even supporting, either financially (and take your choice from the wacky reward stacks) or socially.

Once a month on SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s The Bob Edwards Show, I talk about music crowdfunding and feature some of the bands I’ve discovered.

I will focus on what I know best: indie rock, and look round in rock and country/folk, plus I plan to tap a few guest bloggers to post about classical, electronic, hip hop/R&B, jazz, and world music.
